Cork and Fin: Dine Out restaurant no. 1

Last evening Tony and I went to check out Cork and Fin in Gastown (By
the Gassy Jack statue).  Enjoyed Oysters, Pear & Blue Cheese Salad,
Seafood Ciopinno, Snapper and Beef Short Ribs.  All very tasty, but we
were left still hungry (very small portions).  The portion sizes were
probably what we should eat realistically, but Tony still had a
hankering for something and I wanted to check out somewhere for
desert.

We headed across the street to The Diamond (a place I used to
visit for drinks with my colleagues) where Tony decided to try their
$18 dine out menu!  He had duck confit and a open face seafood sammy
and then we enjoyed two desserts!!!!!!  The chocolate mousse was
incredible and we also had a caramel tart with homemade ice-cream.
The tart was good, but the caramel was a little salty for our liking.
Overall a great date and some yummy food.

A special thank you to
Seanna and Laurie who enjoyed the company of our three children for
the evening!

In two weeks we are sampling Mistral.  Has anyone ever been there?
What did you think?

Anybody want to watch Kaylem????

Lego build at the central library - VPL

So off we went yesterday to the main branch of the VPL to attend a lego build they advertise each week.  My advice...if you have to drive and park or pay for the bus just to check it out, it's really not worth it. The programmer running it was friendly, but really they just put out some lego books and dumped a bin of lego on the ground.

a Kearin creation
I would have thought that there would have been someone who was into building lego themselves who would have facilitated this lego build.

Anyhow, Kearin did a bit of building, but the girls (Katherine and Keanna) and him were more interested in the MANGA books in the end.

I am starting to feel sick. Kearin is sick.  Angela was sick. I heard
that Denise was sick.  Here's a recipe I found to try to circumvent
your sick. You just have to be well enough to make it.

Flu-Buster Clementine Creamsicle Smoothie
Yield: ~2 cups

Ingredients:

1 large ripe banana, peeled, sliced, and frozen
1/2 small avocado, flesh scooped out, and frozen
2-3 Clementines, peeled and broken into segments
2 tbsp coconut milk (the cream from top of can)
1/2 cup coconut milk (watery part) OR 1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup + 2 tbsp milk (I used almond milk)
1/4 tsp almond extract
1 Medjool date, pitted and roughly chopped (optional)
1-2 tsp fresh lemon juice
Directions: Peel and freeze the avocado, Clementines, and banana
before making this smoothie. Once frozen, place all ingredients into a
blender and blend until smooth. You may add more liquid if it is too
thick. Makes 2 cups.

I'm going to make some today...
